Chairman Grassley’s Forced Vote on Bove is a Naked Display of Fealty to His King

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 17 2025

The Full Senate Must Reject This Shameful Nomination

The following statement is attributable to Molly Coleman, executive director of the People’s Parity Project:

“Chairman Grassley has turned the Senate Judiciary Committee into an embarrassing symbol of our democracy’s decline. Chairman Grassley forcing a vote on Emil Bove is a new low and a naked display of fealty to his king. He can no longer pretend to care about the rule of law or Senate process and procedures.

“We applaud the Senators who walked out and refused to participate in the charade. Republicans on the Judiciary Committee have made clear they have no integrity and only contempt for the law and the people whom they are supposed to represent.

“Today’s absolute mess of a committee meeting comes after 900 DOJ alumni spoke out against Bove’s nomination, noting that Bove was ‘a leader in the assault’ on the DOJ’s constitutional principles and institutional guardrails. It is time for the full Senate to do what the Judiciary Committee would not and reject this shameful nomination.”
