It’s no secret that law schools don’t teach you what you need to know about the law.
From the ways in which corporate America has built itself a private legal system devoid of justice or oversight to the doctrines that allow police officers to get away with murder, law schools too often ignore the realities of our current legal systems. This leaves law students without the information they need to adequately fight for needed change—and ill-prepared to be true advocates for their clients.
At PPP, we’re committed to ensuring that law students have the information that they need to work within and against our existing legal regime. As part of this effort, we’re partnering with Demand Justice, a progressive organization that empowers citizens to organize around our nation’s courts and prevent them from devolving into just another tool of economic and social oppression. Demand Justice is putting on a series of trainings aimed at incoming 1Ls about just a few of the things that law school won’t teach you. This week’s session will focus on qualified immunity.
The training will take place on Wednesday, September 16, at 8:00 PM ET/5:00 PM PT. The training is open to law students everywhere, and you can let us know what you’d like to learn about ahead of time. You can sign up below or here. If you have questions, please contact Molly Coleman at molly@peoplesparity.org. We look forward to seeing you there!
