PPP on Defiance of Court Orders: ‘The Courts Will Not Save Us’

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 18 2025
The following statement is attributable to Molly Coleman, Executive Director, People’s Parity Project:
“If, as it appears, the Trump Administration knowingly defied a federal court order, we are no longer in a country governed by the rule of law. For the judiciary to be a check on the executive, we need an executive who is willing to be checked by our constitutional order—something that we clearly do not have in Donald Trump. The events of the past few days underscore the reality that the courts won’t save us. Responsibility to reclaim our democracy and resist authoritarianism lies with each American. From the voter to the elected official to leaders of higher education, nonprofits, and business alike, we all have a role to play in standing up for immigrants, for the rule of law, and for the future of our democracy.”
